The Petrus vineyard covers approximately 11 hectares, planted in clay-gravel soils that promote optimal grape ripening. The vines, averaging 40 years old, are cultivated with meticulous care, each vine receiving individual attention to ensure the highest quality. The region's oceanic climate, with its mild winters and hot summers, allows for a slow and even ripening of the grapes, contributing to the wine's aromatic complexity.

Owner and history

Currently, the estate is managed by the Moueix family, who acquired Petrus in the 1940s. Jean-Pierre Moueix, an emblematic figure in Bordeaux winemaking, brought Petrus international renown. The family continues to cultivate this wine with passion and dedication, preserving the heritage and integrity of the estate. Their vision is rooted in a deep respect for the terroir and a commitment to quality, ensuring that each vintage is a true expression of its place.

Vinification and aging

The winemaking process at Petrus is meticulous, blending tradition and innovation. The grapes are harvested by hand and then carefully sorted. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled vats, allowing for precise temperature control. Aging occurs in oak barrels, a percentage of which are new, for 18 to 24 months. This process allows the aromas of the wood to be delicately integrated while preserving the purity of the fruit, thus creating a wine of great depth.
