The Chambolle-Musigny Village appellation is located in the Côte de Nuits, in the Côte d'Or department. The Chambolle-Musigny AOP is bordered by the Vougeot and Morey-Saint-Denis appellations on the Burgundy Grand Cru wine route. The vineyard covers approximately 150 hectares, of which 55 hectares are classified as Premier Cru. The appellation primarily produces red wines. Within this appellation, there are 24 Premier Cru vineyards and 2 Grand Cru vineyards. It is worth noting that the Climats of Burgundy have been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2015.

Chambolle-Musigny is a red Burgundy wine producing wines of a rather feminine style. The main characteristics of Chambolle-Musigny wines are elegance, finesse, richness, and complexity. The king of Burgundy grapes, Pinot Noir, benefits from a high-quality terroir located between 250 and 300 meters above sea level, on the edge of the Combe de Chambolle. The wines are distinguished according to their location within the vineyard: those in the north are more powerful, while those in the south are more refined.

Les Amoureuses is undoubtedly the most beautiful vineyard in this appellation. It delights lovers of great Burgundy wines with its delicate, velvety texture. This vineyard covers just over 5 hectares and is located a short distance from the Grand Cru Le Musigny.

Chambolle Musigny also has 2 Grands Crus : Le Musigny which is at the top of the Clos Vougeot appellation and Les Bonnes Mares which links with the Morey-St-Denis appellation.

Who are the major producers of Chambolle-Musigny?

Groffier Père et Fils Estate

Based in the village of Morey-Saint-Denis, Domaine Groffier owns the majority of the magnificent Premier Cru Les Amoureuses. The estate's vineyards are primarily located in Chambolle-Musigny. Nicolas Groffier and his sister Julie produce wines of remarkable finesse. The estate's philosophy is to prioritize the vine in order to produce grapes of the highest quality and purity. The result in the bottle is simply magical.

Faiveley Estate

Domaine Faiveley is the largest vineyard owner in Burgundy. In Chambolle-Musigny, it owns two Premier Cru vineyards: Les Fuées and La Combe d'Orveau. The Premier Cru La Combe d'Orveau lies just above the Musigny Grand Cru appellation. This small 0.25-hectare plot produces a delicate red wine with a beautiful tannic structure and aromas of black fruit with a subtle toasty note.

Bertagna Estate

Domaine Bertagna delights us with its Chambolle-Musigny village wine. The vines, located at the entrance to the village, are up to 99 years old! It's a profound Chambolle, complex and best cellared for a few years. The estate has practiced organic farming since 2009 but does not seek certification.

What food and wine pairing goes well with a Chambolle Musigny?

We recommend a serving temperature of around 14 to 16°, with young wines being able to be served slightly cooler.
A Chambolle Musigny pairs perfectly with meats with character, such as game birds.
A Bresse capon with its tender flesh pairs wonderfully with the silkiness and elegance of this appellation.

The Premier Crus, with their more pronounced complexity and more present tannins, will enhance roasted meats such as a 7-hour lamb or, more simply, a rack of veal.
