Château Rauzan-Ségla

four centuries of history

The Rauzan-Ségla estate was established by Pierre Desmezures de Rauzan in 1661. This vineyard and that ofRauzan-GassiesThey then formed a single entity, until his death in 1692. The estate remained in the hands of the founding family for nearly 300 years, only being sold in 1957 to Philippe de Meslon, after having suffered particularly severe damage from the previous winter's frosts. Over the following centuries, the château passed through several owners, undergoing various transformations along the way. It notably:

• a significant replacement of its vines,
• a mechanization of property,
• the construction of a new wine cellar,
• several other hardware improvements.

Rauzan-Ségla has had a different spelling throughout its history: when the Cruse family acquired it in 1903, they added the “s” from their name to it to formRausan-SéglaIt was only when its current owners purchased the domain that the original spelling was recovered.

The House of Chanel

a considerable increase

The estate was bought by Chanel, which also owns theCanon Castlein Saint-Émilion and Château Berliquet. Significant financial investments were made in the château. They then undertook to continue the renovation of the estate, which was already beginning to bear fruit. Indeed, while the young vines planted by Philippe de Meslon initially produced disappointing wine, they reached an excellent level by the 1980s. The efforts made by the new owners further boosted this qualitative improvement, fully realizing the potential of thispowerful wineToday, the technical management of the castle is entrusted to the talentedNicolas Audebert.

A quality terroir

powerful yet delicate wines

ThisSecond Growth ClassifiedIt covers 66 hectares in the heart of the Margaux appellation. Its grape varieties include:

• 60% ofCabernet-Sauvignon
• 35% Merlot
• 3.5% Petit-Verdot
• a touch of Cabernet Franc

Thanks to a terroir of fine, deep gravel, the wines produced are rich and particularly fruity, with an elegant finesse. Traditional cultivation and winemaking methods give the wines concentration, robustness, and power. Furthermore, the owners have opted for integrated pest management, even cultivating 4 hectares inorganicsince 2010.
