Located in the Pauillac appellation, on the left bank of the Médoc, Château Pichon Comtesse de Lalande is one of Bordeaux's most iconic gems . Classified as a Second Growth in the 1855 classification, this estate is distinguished by the elegance of its wines, often described as feminine and refined. It takes its name from a prominent figure, Virginie de Pichon Longueville, Countess of Lalande , who left her mark on the château's history. Today, the estate combines heritage, meticulous winemaking, and modern techniques to produce some of Pauillac's most sought-after wines, such as La Réserve de La Comtesse , its second wine.

The Château Pichon Comtesse de Lalande vineyard covers approximately 90 hectares in Pauillac, the majority of which lies on the prestigious gravelly slopes bordering the Gironde estuary. This terroir, composed of deep gravel over a clay-sand subsoil, offers optimal drainage and ideal temperature regulation. The vines, averaging 35 years old, receive meticulous care to express the full finesse of Cabernet Sauvignon and the roundness of Merlot, the heart of the Réserve de La Comtesse blend.

    Owner and history

Since 2007, Château Pichon Comtesse de Lalande has belonged to the Champagne house Louis Roederer, which has breathed new life into the estate. Under the direction of Nicolas Glumineau, an agricultural engineer and passionate oenologist, the estate has undergone a major qualitative renaissance. His meticulous approach to the vineyard, his constant pursuit of excellence, and his respect for the Château's historical style have resulted in remarkable consistency, both in the grand vin and in its brilliant Réserve de La Comtesse.

    Vinification and aging

The estate practices plot-by-plot vinification, with fermentations in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks for precise extraction and respect for the fruit.
La Réserve de La Comtesse 2019 is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels, approximately 30% of which are new. This aging process refines the tannins and imparts a subtle oak complexity, without ever overpowering the fruit. Constant care is taken at every stage to preserve the wine's purity and elegance.
