    Owner and history

Naoko Dalla Valle and her late husband, Gustav — an Italian-born entrepreneur specializing in diving equipment — arrived in the Napa Valley In the early 1980s, driven by the initial dream of creating a hotel and restaurant that could rival the finest Relais & Châteaux establishments, they discovered a steep, sun-drenched plot on the eastern hills of Oakville—with iron-rich volcanic soil unlike anything they had ever seen—and immediately recognized its exceptional character. They decided to make it their home. The early years were a time of learning and growth. Gustav and Naoko absorbed the rhythm of the valley, relying on the generosity of their friends—other winegrowers and winemakers who shared their knowledge, time, and encouragement with the open-minded kindness that has long characterized the community of the Napa Valley. It was through these relationships, as much as through contact with the land itself, that the idea of producing wine germinated; not as a simple commercial enterprise, but as the expression of a terroir and an art of living. In 1986, this vision became a reality. domaine Dalla Valle Vineyards was officially founded on a hillside plot of barely twenty acres (about 8 hectares): a modest size, but with a unique character. The following year—the same year their daughter Maya was born—Gustav and Naoko planted five acres of Cabernet Sauvignon in her honor. Named "Maya's Vineyard," this plot has since become one of America's most celebrated wineries. Today, Dalla Valle Vineyards is run by Naoko and Maya Dalla Valle; this mother-daughter duo continues the work quietly begun on these slopes forty years ago. Alongside vineyard manager Edgar Alfaro and a dedicated team, they tend to each vine and each vintage with the meticulous care and singular ambition that the world's greatest wines demand, honoring the past while resolutely looking towards the future.

    Vinification and aging

Maya's winemaking is the result of meticulous expertise. After a manual harvest, the grapes are carefully sorted to retain only the finest. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, allowing for optimal aroma extraction. Aging in oak barrels imparts complexity and structure to the wine. This crucial stage is carried out over a specific period to balance the fruit and oak, creating a harmonious and elegant wine.

    The team's opinion

Maya is an invitation to a sensory journey, where each sip reveals unparalleled depth and elegance.
