Located in Tain-l'Hermitage, in the heart of the Northern Rhône Valley, Maison M. Chapoutier is among the leading names in French winemaking. Founded in 1808, this family business distinguished itself through its early commitment to biodynamic practices, championed by Michel Chapoutier. Guided by a quest for excellence, the house produces wines that are true to their terroir, combining rigor, authenticity, and purity.

Tasting notes

The 2024 Le Méal boasts a brilliant golden-yellow hue, heralding a wine of great depth. The intense, highly mineral nose reveals notes of toasted almonds and a subtle floral touch, all supported by discreet and perfectly integrated oak. On the palate, the attack is ample, rich, and remarkably refined, giving way to a beautiful, exotic freshness enveloped in a generous texture. The long, persistent finish unveils the full nobility of its terroir, with an elegant aromatic complexity.

Food & wine pairings

This wine pairs wonderfully with monkfish tagine, curried prawns or chicken with morels.

Owner and history

From the lieu-dit Le Méal, this great white wine comes from a south-facing slope, one of the most renowned in Hermitage. The soil here is composed of rolled pebbles, loess, and a deep clay base, providing excellent drainage and ideal heat retention. Thanks to this configuration, the Marsanne grapes ripen slowly, developing concentration and minerality. The vines, old and cultivated biodynamically, produce low yields of exceptional quality. This remarkable terroir gives rise to a powerful, complex wine, deeply rooted in its origin.

Vinification and aging

The winemaking process for the 2024 Méal at M. Chapoutier is based on a meticulous approach, combining technical precision with absolute respect for the fruit. The grapes are harvested by hand, in several passes, to guarantee perfect ripeness. They are pressed whole, then lightly settled, with a moderate use of sulfur. Fermentation takes place primarily in demi-muids and foudres (85%, including 10% new oak), supplemented by stainless steel tanks (15%), in order to balance complexity and aromatic purity. Eleven months of aging on the lees, punctuated by occasional stirring, imparts richness, smoothness, and a subtle toasty note to the wine.
