Tasting notes

Intense, bright purple in colour. The nose unfolds with luscious red berry fruits and remarkable aromatic purity. The palate is smooth and enveloping, carried by silky tannins and vibrant energy. The finish is chiselled, with a gentle sweet and saline character.

A vigneron’s dwelling carved into the Saint-Émilion hillside

Acquired in 2014 by the Vauthier family, La Clotte is a four-hectare vineyard set against the southern escarpment of Saint-Émilion’s ramparts. Far from being a traditional château, ‘Clotte’ refers to an ancient vigneron’s cave dwelling, carved into the living rock of the village—a shelter where life, work and wine are one. The winery is built into the quarries beneath the village, with vinification and ageing taking place in the terroir itself, naturally cool, humid and stable. Directly above, the south-facing terraces bring the grapes to full ripeness. The wine is born from this tension: a natural plushness, held in check by limestone freshness and a signature saline minerality.

2025 VINTAGE. On La Clotte’s south-facing terraces, the warm, dry conditions of the vintage particularly favoured concentration. The harvest was fractioned, with certain parcels picked in up to three passes, to achieve a degree of precision previously reserved only for Ausone. Two young north-west-exposed Merlot and Cabernet Franc plots bring tension to the plush, radiant character of La Clotte.
