The vineyard of Château Haut-Bergey covers 30 hectares, benefiting from exceptional clay-limestone soil. Owner and history

The origins of Haut-Bergey can be traced back to the 15th century. In the 18th century, the domaine It was owned by Jean-François de Cresse, a councilor in the Bordeaux parliament, and covered 100 hectares of vines. The vineyard was abandoned at the end of the 19th century, but replanted at the end of the 1950s. Sylviane Garcin Cathiard, granddaughter of a wine merchant and sister of Daniel Cathiard, owner of Smith Haut-Lafitte, bought it in 1991 from Jacques Deschamps. She then embarked on a vast and ambitious renovation project, creating a vat room with temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks and an air-conditioned barrel cellar. She also planted 2 hectares of white grape varieties.

Vinification and aging

Winemaking at Château Haut-Bergey is crafted with meticulous care. The grapes are harvested by hand and then carefully sorted to guarantee their quality. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, allowing for precise temperature control. Aging occurs in oak barrels, some of which are renewed annually to bring complexity and depth to the wines. This method aims to preserve the integrity of the fruit while adding a subtle touch of oak.
