The Château Grand Corbin Despagne vineyard covers approximately 28 hectares in the northwest of the Saint-Émilion appellation. The vines are planted in sandy-clay soil resting on a clay-limestone subsoil, ideal for Merlot. The average age of the vines is 40 years, allowing for optimal concentration in the grapes. The estate adopts sustainable viticultural practices, prioritizing soil management and biodiversity. This approach aims to accurately express the richness of the terroir and preserve the environment. Each plot is cultivated with great precision to guarantee the excellence of the harvested fruit.

Owner and history

Château Grand Corbin Despagne has belonged to the Despagne family since 1812, a lineage deeply rooted in the Saint-Émilion vineyards. François Despagne, the current head of the estate, represents the seventh generation. A trained oenologist, he manages the property with passion, balancing tradition and innovation. His commitment to sustainable and meticulous viticulture has earned the château recognition for both the consistency of its vintages and the distinctive character of its wines. François Despagne instills a humanistic and quality-driven vision, constantly striving for harmony between the terroir, the vine, and the wine.

Vinification and aging

At Château Grand Corbin Despagne, vinification is carried out plot by plot to best respect the identity of each terroir. The grapes are harvested by hand, followed by fermentation in temperature-controlled tanks. After blending, the wine is aged for 12 to 18 months in French oak barrels, some of which are new, adding complexity and structure. This extended aging process gives the wine a beautiful depth and remarkable aging potential.
