94-95pts/100 James Suckling : " A remarkable density and structure for the vintage . Delicious aromas of black fruit and salted olives, with hints of oyster shell and black licorice. Fine, almost powdery but firm tannins .

Château Palmer, located in the heart of the Margaux appellation on the left bank of the Médoc, is recognized as one of the most prestigious Third Growth Classified in 1855. With a profound respect for living organisms, the estate practices biodynamic viticulture across its entire vineyard. Alter Ego, created in 1998, is the Château's second wine, but it stands out as a distinct cuvée, with a more immediate and approachable style. It reveals the vibrancy of the fruit while retaining the finesse and elegance emblematic of great Margaux wines.

The Château Palmer vineyard covers 66 hectares, with deep gravelly soils resting on a clay-limestone subsoil, typical of Margaux. The old vines, averaging 38 years old, have been cultivated biodynamically since 2008. This demanding approach allows for a faithful and vibrant expression of the terroir, while ensuring optimal soil health and a high level of microbial diversity beneficial to the vines.

    Owner and history

Since 2004, Château Palmer has been managed by Thomas Duroux, former winemaker at Ornellaia, and supported by a team committed to sustainable and high-quality practices. Together, they initiated an ambitious transition to biodynamic farming, guided by a philosophy that values respect for nature and artisanal excellence. Their vision has enabled Palmer and Alter Ego to achieve a remarkable level of refinement and distinctiveness, acclaimed worldwide.

    Vinification and aging

The winemaking at Château Palmer takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, grape variety by grape variety and plot by plot, with the utmost respect for the identity of each terroir.
For Alter Ego 2021, the aging process was extended for 18 months in French oak barrels, 25 to 30% of which were new, giving the wine a silky structure without masking the freshness of the fruit.
