        The history of theMalescot Saint-Exupéry CastleThis is theEscoussés familywho is starting a wine-growing business onthe Margaux appellationIn 1697, they sold the estate to Simon Malescot, a councilor to the king in the Bordeaux parliament. He had the château built, which would later bear his name. The château remained in the family until the French Revolution.

        Jean-Baptiste de Saint-Exupéry, the great-grandfather of the famous author and aviator, acquired the estate in 1827. His name was added to that of Malescot, and that is how the château has been known to this day. A few years before the major classification of 1855, the château was sold to the Fourcade family; the property then comprised 165 hectares, 77 of which were dedicated to vineyards.

        Placed among theThird Growth Classified Winesof the Margaux appellation, theMalescot Saint-Exupéry CastleIts influence extends throughout France and abroad. In 1955, theZuger familyThe owner, still today, settled in the Château and ensured its significant expansion. The motto“Semper ad altum”(Ever higher) will be engraved in stone. The ambitions of the estate are thus inscribed, which allows theChâteau Malescot Saint-Exuperyto be one of the finest in the appellation.

        The feminine terroir of the Margaux appellation

        Meticulous viticulture

        It's on the banks of the Gironde, onthe Margaux appellationwhere is theMalescot Saint-Exupéry CastleThe property covers 45 hectares, 30 of which are dedicated to vines. The gravelly terroir, typical of the region, is home to Cabernet Sauvignon (50%), Merlot (35%), Cabernet Franc (10%) and Petit Verdot (5%) vines.

        These are grown insustainable viticultureThe gravelly soils store the day's heat and release it at night. Red grape varieties thrive in this terroir and benefit from an oceanic climate that brings freshness.

        A quote from Antoine de Saint-Exupéry accompanies the château's name on the gate: "We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children." These words reflect the extreme care the winemakers take with their estate. They respect the vines and the environment at every stage of the winemaking process.

        The expertise of perfectionists

        The wines are hand-harvested, sorted, and placed in stainless steel tanks for maceration and fermentation. They are then aged in barrels for 15 to 18 months, depending on the vintage. Each step is carried out with meticulous precision, which is the strength of this wine.Third Growth Classified.

        Located onthe Margaux appellation, the most feminine of the right bank, the wines ofMalescot Saint-Exupéry Castleare full of surprises.Michel Rollandhas been assisting the technical teams with winemaking since 1991. Numerous professionals, including Andreas Larsson (World's Best Sommelier in 2007), attest to the efforts made by the château. The wine is indeed described as"Modern Grand Cru"It is both approachable in its youth and has the potential to age for 20 to 30 years. It is therefore a wine with a fruity, concentrated nose, expressing black fruits, with powerful tannins, which is meant to be enjoyed.
