Owner ofChâteau Lafite RothschildFor five generations, the Rothschild family has been established in the Bordeaux wine region, beginning in 1868. After acquiring several estates, they now also own Châteaux Duhart-Milon, Rieussec, and L'Évangile. Château Lafite Rothschild produces a Grand Vin and a second wine, Carruades de Lafite. From 1975 until recently, Éric de Rothschild was at the helm of the château, succeeding his uncle, Élie de Rothschild. In November 2017, Éric's daughter, Saskia, became the owner of Château Lafite Rothschild.

At the head of the 112-hectare vineyard,Eric de RothschildThus, for many years, the estate dynamically produced magnificent wines, with the help of the talented Charles Chevalier. Bearing a long winemaking tradition dating back to 1620, the wines develop a noble personality that asserts itself with age. The exceptional terroir plays a significant role in this.remarkable qualityThese wines are renowned worldwide. Thanks to its composition of deep, fine sandy gravel over a limestone subsoil and its perfect exposure, the natural conditions are ideal for wine production. Since 1980, the château has consistently produced wines, ranking at the top of the 1855 classification.

Premier Grand Cru

Château Lafite Rothschild is of admirable quality and is classifiedPremier Grand Cru Classéaccording to the official Bordeaux wine classification of 1855.Château Lafite RothschildThe viticulture here is traditional, limiting the use of chemical fertilizers and favoring manual labor. The harvest, in particular, is done by hand, the winemaking is carried out on a plot-by-plot basis, and the agriculture is sustainable.

The vines used for the grand vin are on average 45 years old, and are only cultivated for this purpose after their first decade. Furthermore, the château obtains its barrels directly from the Rothschild Estates cooperage, ensuring a perfect match with its wines. The wines generally age for 10 years, but the finest vintages can be cellared for up to 50 years.
